RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) — Reno hosts many fan-favorite events throughout the year. If you’re a music lover, this fall you may have a new one.

“We’ve always wanted to do a festival in Reno,” Flip Wright said. “There have been some that have been here, some more successful than others. We really wanted to do a festival that was going to be more city-wide.”

Wright said this won’t be your typical music festival. Like the name suggests – it’s Off Beat.

The Off Beat Arts & Music Festival will be more like a musical crawl around Midtown, Downtown and the 4th Street corridor.

“The whole idea is we want people to move,” said event co-organizer Remi Jourdan. “We want people to support those local venues.”

10 local businesses have already signed up as venues. Jourdan said he hopes to start booking musical talent next week.

“We may have special guests, regional or national acts that have been supporting the local scene here in Reno, but mainly the whole idea is to showcase local talents,” Jourdan said.

Ticket prices haven’t been set yet, but proceeds will go to Future Kind, a local non profit that helps kids get involved in the arts.

“We teach them how to communicate, basically to empower these kids to find something that they’re passionate about,” said Baldo Bobadilla, executive director of Future Kind and event organizer.

Bobadilla said this event will shine a spotlight on all that Reno has to offer.

“If you like your city, if you like your community, if you like to see this community thrive and help make that happen, this is why you should be excited about it,” he said.

Wright says the Off Beat festival will be what you make it, from a tour of Reno to a night at your favorite bar.

“It’s really up to you,” Wright said. “There’s just going to be a lot of options for people to go explore.”
